Shadow
and a Thought
by Sarah Fulkerson
*Shadow* (Part 1)
Sleeping death before her, Dreamer's eyes
The apple, though she took a bite
was blessed despite the poison inside
giving chance for what is death's worst fear
the slice of hope for love's first kiss
a catch the evil queen had sorely missed
But as I take the final bite
Bringing nigh the darkening world
'Twould hang my soul that's dangling from the twisted vine,
I am assured
Holding the black of death,
the red of blood, the apple I have prepared this night
'Tis different from the one she bit
No catch is there, no hope of escape
For I do not wish this so
I take the bite, the sweetest taste
Of dreamless sleep becoming eternal
The apple falls, I live no more
For I have seen a ghost tonight
A broken mirror pierced my vein
Death, I sing unto the pain
Goodnight
*And A Thought* (Part 2)
O green country of restful peace
Little girl in the white dress, wave to me
Show to me a world once known
And let me know it still remains
Though my hands cannot reach
Walking barefoot through the snow
Just to reach you there
I'll freeze and I'll bleed and I'll breath in your absence
Knowing that in the end
Shield maiden slays the Ring wraith
And I will reach the green country
Beyond the veil of life
I'm sleeping just to dream.
