Edmund II
Apr - Nov 1016
House of Wessex

Edmund was the son of Ethelred and succeeded him for a reign of seven months. He had established himself as King of the Danelaw, independant of his father. After Ethelred's death, he defended London against Canute and earned the name Ironside for his prowess in military engagements with the invader. Canute later defeated him at Ashingdon in Essex and a treaty was made allowing Edmund to control Wessex and Canute to rule Mercia and Northumbria. When Edmund died the entire realm fell to Canute.
